Ghaziabad, August 28th, 2008: Toyota Technical Education Program, a unique training initiative by Toyota Kirloskar Motor, in conjunction with its parent company, Toyota Motor Corporation, entered into its third year in India today, marked by its launch in Ghaziabad.
T-TEP in India is a special training module launched in 2006. So far, ten Institutions have been covered under the program in a span of two years. In its first year, the programme was implemented in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hubli. The program was then introduced in Bangalore, Pune, Cochin, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad.
T-TEP is aimed at enhancing the skill sets and employability of the ITI students in the 15-18 years age group. In partnership with industrial training institutes in the country, this program seeks to develop highly skilled young talented technicians for the automotive industry and thus increase their profitability. TKM is partnering with industrial training institutes and jointly working with its dealers to develop highly trained technicians for the auto industry in India.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Nakagawa, MD, TKM Pvt. Ltd. said, "This partnership will enable us to offer the students greater exposure to technical training and a larger scope in the auto industry in India. This initiative will provide exposure to the students to latest service techniques used in the automotive industry and will go a long way in creating industry-ready manpower."
In 2008, TKM has partnered with 5 technical training institutes -
Apart from being technical institutes of academic repute and offering automotive courses with proper classrooms and practice areas, the selection criteria for institutes to participate in T-TEP include adequate number of qualified automotive instructors with Government-approved credentials.
The T-TEP curriculum has been synchronized with industrial training institute's syllabus in the 2nd year of the course. On-the-job training will be provided at the nearby Toyota dealership every week, for a period of 6 months, so that the students can get a first hand feel of Toyota technology and service systems. As a part of TTEP, TKM will train the instructors of the institutes in the latest technology used at Toyota. TKM will extend this partnership to other technical institutes in the coming years and plans to reach out to over 400 technical institute students every year through this program.
T-TEP supports Toyota's comprehensive human resource development system that extends from the training at TTEP institutes to recruitment and development at Toyota dealerships. TMC and TKM will fund the project and provide T-TEP hi-tech training packages and Toyota service training manuals.
The effectiveness of TTEP is widely recognized throughout the world. Globally, Toyota has introduced this program in 53 countries, which include USA, Australia, Italy, South Africa, China and Vietnam and India. TTEP has been implemented in 419 institutes across the 53 countries.
About Toyota Kirloskar Motor:
TKM is a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation and the Kirloskar Group. TKM has invested nearly Rs. 1,500 crores in its plant at Bidadi, employing nearly 3,000 people. The plant started production in December 1999 and has a capacity of producing 60,000 units annually. TKM recently held a ceremony to mark the beginning of construction of its second plant and has announced plans to invest Rs 1400 crores in the project.
