Mr. T.S Jaishankar, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor who was present at the occasion said "India emerges as the 4th largest consumer of energy in the world following the US, China and Russia in energy accounting for 4.4% of global energy consumption. We feel privileged to be a part of the FAME Eco Drive to educate and encourage the use of full hybrid vehicles in India. Toyota Camry Hybrid is the first ever locally manufactured full hybrid vehicle with 48% more fuel efficiency and emits 25% lesser CO2 when compared to the car of the Same size in petrol variant. From fuel efficient vehicle to developing ground breaking technology, our focus is on environmentally sustainable solutions in everything we do and every vehicle we make. The recently notified demand incentives for buyers by the Govt, in the form of an upfront reduced purchase price of environment friendly vehicles will give a boost to the demand and encourage faster adoption of these vehicles in India."

Present at the event Mr. Ambuj Sharma- Add. Sec, MOHI said "With India's energy emissions rising at an alarming rate, it is imperative to encourage Hybrid/Electric Vehicles to reduce the carbon footprint and ensure a safer and greener environment for tomorrow. We welcome all the participants and appreciate their strong support to FAME ECO Drive which propagates the significance of conservation of energy and environmental benefits of hybrid and electric vehicles and promotes mass adoption of these vehicles. We appreciate Toyota to be the first manufacturer to locally make hybrid cars in India and support the government in sensitizing and popularizing the advantage of Hybrid vehicles. This year's event has more than 50 hybrids and electric vehicles from different automobile manufactures rallying through the 3 cities namely Delhi, Jaipur and Chandigarh. We hope the event touches the right cord with people and encourages them to invest in vehicles that will reduce the use of energy and cuts emission woes"

Hybrid technology is one of the finest examples of green future which minimizes the usage of existing exhaustible resources. Globally, Toyota as pioneers in Hybrid technology is leading the way by adopting alternate motoring as an answer to overcome carbon emission woes.

The company boasts of a rich lineage of over 15 years in hybrid with over 8 million hybrid cars across the globe. Toyota Camry is the first hybrid vehicle to qualify for the incentive provided by the Government under its Faster Adoption & Manufacturing of Electric cars (FAME). Camry Hybrid’s “full hybrid” powertrain combines the performance of a 2.5 liter Atkinson cycle for – cylinder gasoline engine and high – torque electric motor. The Camry Hybrid is a strong self-charging vehicle, unlike an electric vehicle. When the vehicle decelerates or at the time of braking, the electric motor acts as a generator and converts the kinetic energy to electric energy in a process called regenerative braking. This energy is stored in Camry Hybrid’s HV battery pack for later use when needed to power the vehicle.

In India, TKM created history by launching the first ever locally manufactured hybrid – Camry Hybrid, in Aug 2013. Globally India is the 9th country or region to manufacture Toyota hybrid vehicles. At present Camry Hybrid constitutes more than 85% of the total Camry sales in India (also sold with gasoline engine), testimony to hybrid’s growing acceptance in India. Launched in the end of April this year Camry Hybrid, sold 780 units since launch as compared to 720 units sold in the whole of 2014, emphasizing customer's acceptance of hybridization as the future.
