New Delhi, March 01st 2016 - Toyota Kirloskar Motor today inaugurated the "Driver Training Program" and a "Health Check-up Camp" at Delhi International Airport, New Delhi. The camp was organized by Toyota Kirloskar Motor in partnership with Global infrastructure major- GMR and Medanta Hospital, leading multi-specialty medical institute. This initiative was undertaken with the objective to engage and educate airport taxi drivers on the traffic safety challenges and the critical importance of making Indian roads safer with a more responsible approach.

The event was graced by eminent dignitaries including Dr. RohitBaluja, President, IRTE, Mr. Marcel Hungerbeuhler, COO, DIAL and Toyota Kirloskar was represented by dignitaries from senior management like Mr. Vikram Kirloskar, Vice Chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Mr. Naomi Ishii, MD, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

There was an interactive audio visual training session conducted by experts from Institute of Road Traffic Education for the airport taxi drivers, the training catered to key traffic safety challenges like lane discipline, impact of drunk driving, traffic rules and guidelines apart from other basic road safety aspects. The training program was aimed at educating airport taxi drivers about the importance of road safety and their role to keep the roads safe. With the dedicated support from Medanta Hospital and Essilor Vision Foundation, health and eye check-ups including x rays in special vans, advanced blood checkups, near and distance visual acuity test, color perception and depth perception was also facilitated for airport taxi drivers of the city.

Last year, a total of 8085 road accidents and average of 4 deaths per day were reported in Delhi. Through this initiative we aim at creating a strong road safety sense amongst the drivers, and encourage them to adopt safer driving practices. With this awareness drive we would like to give the right message to the airport drivers as well as the general public to ensure that our roads are much safer in the near future."

In pursuance of its deep rooted safety mission, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has been consistently engaged in Road Safety initiatives since 2005 through various pan India campaigns. Apart from the commitment to building the safest cars, the company has an all- encompassing Safety Program to address road safety challenges in India.

This year's campaign kick started with TKM's participation in the road safety awareness week from 9th -16th January 2016 organized by Bangalore Traffic Police Department. 18 alcohol meters were donated by TKM, which was handed over to Dr. M A Saleem, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) by MD, Naomi Ishii. There were varied interactive activities organized with a focus to generate road safety awareness amongst children and general public in the city of Bangalore.To ensure safest drivers on Indian roads, the Driver Training Program was successfully completed in the Bangalore International Airport as part of the road safety awareness month with over 1500 drivers participating in the campaign. 306 drivers were diagnosed with vision problems during the health checkup and provided free spectacles by TKM.

Road Safety Awareness among school children - Additionally, the company has engaged with over 6 lakh students across India through its "Toyota Safety Education Program" which aims at spreading road safety awareness amongst children of 10 - 14 years. Toyota has educated 30,000 school children in the city of Hyderabad as a part of TSEP.

Driving Schools with focus on safe driving - Being the safety leader in the industry dedicated to the mission 'Safest Cars with Safest Drivers' the company launched Toyota Driving School across India, to impart quality driving training to bring down the rising number of road accidents caused majorly due to human error. The training module will integrate technical expertise along with enhancing behavioral skills to create awareness about safety nationwide.

Seminar to create awareness on safety - TKM had also organized a safety seminar in Guwahati in November 2015, as part of the Bangladesh-Bhutan-India Nepal friendship rally to drive the message of road safety across boundaries.

Safe Cars - Toyota is also the first auto manufacturer to have standardized airbags across all grades of Etios, Etios Liva and Etios Cross, further reinstating the importance of safety. This growing concern over safety has made Toyota strive to ensure better technology to enhance better safety.
