Bangalore, 18th September 2017 : Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), today chaired a valedictory function organized to mark the culmination of ‘Toyota Tantrajna’, a unique skill development project initiated in association with the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC). Instituted in continuation to the automaker’s commitment to enhance the quality in skill development imparted to the youth in India, the program aims to increase employment opportunities in the Automotive Sector for under privileged youth from both rural and urban, between the age group of 18-25 years.
The event held at the Toyota plant in Bidadi, Karnataka was graced in the presence of senior representatives of Toyota Kirloskar Motor - Mr. Yoshihiro Horinouchi, Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Kan Asaine, Senior Vice President, Mr. Raju B Ketkale, Senior Vice President and Mr. Sailesh Shetty, Vice President.
‘Toyota Tantrajna’ launched in May, 2016 comprises of 600 hours of classroom training by globally certified skill trainers, with a holistic approach balancing focus on body, mind and attitude. A comprehensive year and a month plus [Program duration - 13.5 months] training module consists of an induction and fundamental skill training, On the Job development and class room training and trade knowledge training [including Language - English speaking skills, Computer soft skills, Interview etiquettes, etc.,]. After completion of course evaluation and certification by ASDC, TKM synergizes to connect the trainees with prospective employers through “Job Fair”. Toyota provides an attractive stipend, free commutation and canteen facility for the trainees during the training period.
The first batch of Toyota Tantrajna has successfully trained more than 30trainees, and the company is looking to impart this skill module to 400 youths by 2020-2021.
Congratulating the trainees, Mr. Sailesh Shetty - Vice President, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said “The Indian automotive industry is growing at an unprecedented pace and this will augur numerous opportunities for the youth in our country. By the year 2020, India will have a huge benefit in demography with over 65% of the population in the working age group. We at Toyota have been working tirelessly towards harnessing this talent pool, by creating employable skilled talent for the emerging auto industry. ‘Toyota Tantrajna’ is one such initiative by us, to create a sustainable business environment through best-in-class technical training and hands on experience, thereby creating a win-win sustainable business module for both Toyota’s high-class qualitative operations and India’s progressive economic growth.
I would like to congratulate all the participants who have successfully completed the program, and wish them to make a mark, as a role model for the industry with quality performance and a positive attitude. We, at TKM, take this opportunity to thank ASDC for all the support extended towards this landmark skill program of Toyota Kirloskar Motor. It is indeed a delight to see these youths holding an elementary education, being developed to be industry-ready with high skill sets through this training program, contributing to a progressive growth of our country.” He added.

ASDC is the first sector skill council of India, promoted by the Automobile industry through Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) and Government of India represented by Department of Heavy Industry and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). ASDC was incorporated as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 in March 2011.
