Hyderabad, 13th June 2018 – Toyota Kirloskar Motor as safety influencers for the automobile industry in India today announced the launch of the second “Toyota Driving School” in Telangana. Established in partnership with one of Toyota’s dealerships – Yashoda Krishna Toyota, this is the company’s second driving school in the state of Hyderabad and the tenth in India.

Toyota Driving School launch was graced by the chief guest Mr. Naini Narsimha Reddy, Honorable Home Minister & Labour Minister - Telangana, in the presence of Mr. M. Subrahmanyam, Dealer Principal – Yashoda Krishna Toyota, Mr. M.V. Srinivas, Chief Executive Officer – Yashoda Krishna Toyota and representation from senior management of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Mr. N. Raja, Deputy Managing Director.

In pursuance of its safety mission of ‘Safest Cars, Safest Drivers’, Toyota Driving School is an effort to improve the road safety culture in the country. The company already has nine other driving schools across India at Kochi, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Chennai [2 driving schools], Kolkata, Faridabad, Vijayawada and Surat.

‘Toyota Driving School’, one of its kind in the country, will ensure extreme importance on making every student a responsible and safe driver. The curriculum will be a comprehensive driver-training program with high quality and practical & futuristic training models like the driving simulation mechanism which is expected to deliver the “Etios Experience”. To make this experience as realistic as possible, Toyota has incorporated features like Instrument Panel (IP), Steering, and Seats of an actual Etios car.

The curriculum will comprehensively cover the following topics:

  • Traffic management, rules and discipline
  • Safe and right driving concepts
  • Manners and responsibilities of a driver
  • Simulation of driving on real vehicle before getting onto road
  • All aspects of practical driving on road
  • Driving on various road and climate conditions
  • Know your car – Basic maintenance and repairs
  • Emergency handling
  • Systematic evaluation and feedback

Commenting on the need to increase road safety awareness, Mr. Naini Narsimha Reddy, Honorable Home Minister & Labour Minister - Telangana, said “Rapid urbanization in India has resulted in ever increasing motorization. Consequently, people today are exposed to various traffic-related predicaments on a day-to-day basis. It is rather relieving to see that the number of fatalities caused by road accidents in the city of Hyderabad has reduced tremendously, by 50 per cent*. But this isn’t enough. I urge all of you to come together and keep up this momentum to bring down the accidents by engaging in various road safety drives. With its meticulous curriculum comprising of one of the best safety programs ever, institutes like Toyota Driving School will envisage a larger role in promoting the importance of creating safer roads for all.”

Commenting on this new Toyota Driving School launch, Mr. M. Subrahmanyam, Dealer Principal – Yashoda Krishna Toyota said “It is our pleasure to associate with Toyota in their endeavor to make Indian roads accident-free. According to the recent data released by the city Traffic Police, Hyderabad saw the least number of fatal accidents as compared to the last five years.* While we thank our government authorities and traffic department for their relentless efforts in keeping roads safe, we, with our driving schools, also proudly take on the onus of educating our citizens on road safety towards achieving the ultimate safety mission of zero accidents.”

Speaking at the occasion Mr. N Raja, Deputy Managing Director - Toyota Kirloskar Motor said “Discussions and debates at multiple forums and levels on the rising need for expanding road safety awareness point to one direction – the need for an actionable solution. At the grassroots level what is needed are quality driving schools that impart world class driver training as well as reinforcements to follow road rules impulsively. We, at Toyota, follow an integrated safety approach. Apart from right driving techniques, our curriculum also aims to sensitize the students to bring in the behavioral changes in their day-to-day safety habits on roads.

We, at Toyota Driving School, have given extra attention to each and every aspects of the training process, with safety instilled as a vital component in the curriculum. Our training module will integrate technical expertise along with enhancing behavioral skills to create awareness about safety nationwide. Through these driving schools, we aim to bring down the rising number of road mishaps in the country caused majorly due to human error.” He added.

The simulator, a key part of the teaching program, is expected to provide hands on experience. Learners can practice all car controls like steering, accelerator, brake and gear shift before they take the actual vehicle on the road. The simulators can also create various road and weather conditions like fog, dim light, uphill and downhill terrain. While there will be a standard learning package for beginners, ‘Toyota Driving School’ will also offer the flexibility of additional learning modules so that learners can design a curriculum of their choice.

Besides, the simulator also has several credits, it is the first car simulator in India with Full High Definition Computer graphics in an immersive Curved Projection environment, and it is the first simulator in India with real complete car cabin along with actual car gear. In addition, it also offers extensive local language support for effective training and extensive sessions for both novice and advance drivers.

The Toyota Driving School has till date enrolled 4,500 plus students & look forward to double it in 2018. By 2020 the company plans to cross 50 such schools across India, voicing their traffic safety commitment louder.

In pursuance of its deep-rooted safety mission, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has been carrying out Road Safety initiatives since 2005 through various pan India campaigns. Apart from the commitment to building the safest cars, the company has an all - encompassing Safety Program to address road safety challenges in India. As a safety leader, Toyota initiated the Toyota Safety Education Program (TSEP) in 2007 which aims at educating school children and teachers through phase wise approach on important aspects of road safety and eventually passing on the learning to the general public. Toyota has educated more than 7,00,000 school children on road safety across India until now as part of “Toyota Safety Education Program”.

To ensure safest drivers on Indian roads, TKM has been conducting similar Driver Training Programs & Health Check Up camp for Airport taxi drivers in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi International Airport since 2014, as part of the CSR Initiatives on road safety awareness with over 5,000 drivers participating in the campaign till date. Through this initiative Toyota aims at creating a strong road safety sense amongst the drivers, and encourage them to adopt safer driving practices.

Integrated Three Part Initiative

Safest Cars: The newly launched Toyota Yaris is the first car in its segment to offer 7 SRS airbags – (D+P airbags, Side airbags, Curtain Shield Airbags (CSA) and knee airbag) across all its variants. Combined with other best- in-class safety features such as Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Stability Control, Hill Start Assist control & ISOFIX Child Seats, we yet again set new safety benchmark in the Indian car industry. Testament to its unbeaten safety features, Toyota Yaris recently received 5-star safety ratings from the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP).

Etios was first in its segment to standardize Air bags in driver and passenger side. The company went to set a safety benchmark with “The New Platinum Etios’, being the first in the industry to standardize Anti-Lock Braking System with Electronic Brake-force Distribution across all Toyota models & in all grades. Additionally, there are also new dual ISOFIX child seat locks for all models & all grades, added to ensure safety of children. Testament to its position as one of the segment leaders in terms of passenger safety, the Etios was presented with the coveted 4 Stars in Global NCAP Crash Test adult occupant safety for the year 2016.
