Bangalore, 11^th January 2022: National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) and Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) hosted the 2021 edition of India Skills 2021 Competition in Mechatronics and Prototype Modelling Skills at the premises of Toyota Kirloskar Motor in Bidadi.

Mr. Akhilesh Babu and Mr. Karthik Gowda in Mechatronics and Mr. Likith Kumar in Prototype Modelling Skills from TKM representing Karnataka have bagged first place in the competition. These winners will be undergoing rigorous training at TKM including in other specialized centers, and the best performer will represent India and put their skill to test in the World Skills Competition 2022, which will be held in Shanghai, China.

Mr. Ved Mani Tiwari, Chief Operating Officer, NSDC said, India Skills Competition aims to create a pool of talented and skilled workforce, who will fuel the economic growth of the country in the future. The competition offers a national platform to the youth and exposure to global training standards. It is a step towards discovering the power of skills and making vocational training aspirational for the youth.”

Witnessing over 2.5 lakh registrations, India Skills 2021 began with district and state-level competitions in August-September 2021. India Skills 2021 Nationals brought together more than 500 participants from 26 states/ union territories, covering 54 skills- cyber security, autobody repair, cloud computing, water technology, health and social care, welding, among others. This year, 7 new-age skills were introduced to keep up with the emerging technologies—robot systems integration, additive manufacturing, digital construction, industry 4.0, renewable energy, mobile applications development, and industrial design technology.

TKM participants have won one bronze medal in 2017 and three Medallion of Excellence (2015, 2017 and 2019) in Prototype Modeling and Mechatronics category in the previously organized World Skills competitions. With a mission to impart skill training to the aspiring youth from across the country, TKM trainers have conducted boot camp training to further enhance their skill sets.

About World Skills Competition

Initiated in 1950, the World Skills Competition is the global hub for skills excellence and development through international cooperation and development. It is the global meeting place for government, education, industry, and association leaders to discuss relevant and important issues related to skills management.

In 2019, the competition saw participation from more than 1300 competitors from 75 countries challenging each other in 56 skill sets. India took part in 45 skills winning 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze and 15 Medallions of excellence in respective categories. The team consisted of 46 talented young minds who showcased their best performance since India began to take part in the competition in 2007. The participants were selected through a nationwide screening process under the guidance of the National Skill Development Council (NSDC).
