As the automotive sector transforms into a mobility-driven ecosystem, software and IT expertise are emerging as critical enablers. This shift has heightened the need for engineers who can combine strong foundations in automotive systems with advanced digital capabilities. While entry-level talent often brings solid academic knowledge, the industry’s rapid evolution demands additional upskilling to align with real-world applications.

Designed by industry experts, the M. Tech Program ensures that students gain strong academic foundations and practical, hands-on exposure to automotive IT. The four-semester program will focus on theory and practical experience, followed by global internship opportunities with Toyota.

Key Highlights of the MoU

  • TKM shall facilitate one-time setup of specialized laboratories at the premises.
  • Presidency University will provide the infrastructure, space, and utilities for the laboratories, while also managing their day-to-day operations, upkeep, and maintenance.
  • PU and TKM will jointly design and implement the curriculum, with TKM offering insights into industry needs, emerging trends, and skill requirements to shape specialized modules and courses.
  • They will also co-develop programs aligned with TKM’s global standards, aimed at inculcating advanced skills in areas such as automotive engineering, sustainability, manufacturing technology, and automotive business management.

Mr. G. Shankara Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “The auto industry is undergoing a paradigm shift with the advent of software-defined vehicles, autonomous technologies, and connected mobility solutions. At TKM, we recognize the urgent need to develop a new generation of engineers who are as adept in IT as they are in automotive systems. With Presidency University, we aim to meet our organizational talent requirements and contribute to India’s emergence as a global hub for automotive IT expertise.”

Sharing his views, Dr. Nissar Ahamed, Chancellor, Presidency University, said, This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry needs. By working closely with Toyota Kirloskar Motor, our students will gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies shaping the future of mobility. We are confident that this initiative will empower our students to lead in a rapidly transforming industry landscape.”

The M.Tech program will commence with 18 seats with provisions to scale up based on student interest and industry demand. The curriculum will enhance the employability of engineering graduates and provide TKM and its global affiliates with a steady pipeline of skilled engineers trained in both automotive and IT disciplines.
