Bangalore, May 19 th, 2026: : Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today announced a significant milestone in its electrification/multipath way journey with the cumulative sales of 3 lakh hybrid vehicles in India, marking a major step forward in advancing sustainable mobility and reinforcing customer trust in hybrid technology.
This milestone reflects the growing acceptance of self-charging hybrid electric vehicle (SHEV) technology among Indian customers, driven by increasing awareness of superior fuel efficiency, lower emissions, enhanced driving performance, and ease of ownership. It also reaffirms strong customer confidence in the Toyota brand and highlights the company’s commitment to delivering green mobility solutions through a multi-pathway approach.
Backed by over 30 years of global hybrid expertise, Toyota remains at the forefront of practical electrification, advancing its multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality. Globally, more than 38 million electrified vehicles sold have contributed to saving over 197 million tons of CO₂ emissions. In India, rrecognizing the diverse mobility needs and varying infrastructure readiness, Toyota offers an extensive hybrid electric vehicle portfolio including models such as the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Innova HyCross, Camry Hybrid and Vellfire.
Commenting on this milestone, Mr. Sabari Manohar, Executive Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “We are immensely proud to achieve the milestone of 3 lakh hybrid vehicle sales in India, reflecting the strong and growing customer trust in Toyota’s Self-charging Hybrid Electric technology. At Toyota, our philosophy of ‘Mass Electrification’ is rooted in offering practical, scalable, and inclusive mobility solutions. Hybrid technology serves as a critical bridge towards a cleaner future, enabling customers to embrace electrification seamlessly without compromising on performance, convenience, or reliability.
This achievement not only reinforces our commitment to environmentally responsible mobility but also strengthens our resolve to contribute meaningfully to India’s transition towards carbon neutrality.”
Toyota’s hybrid technology represents a harmonious integration of a powerful petrol engine and an advanced electric motor, working together to deliver enhanced performance and efficiency. The system intelligently switches between and combines both power sources, enabling vehicles to operate in electric mode majority of the time, thereby delivering significant fuel efficiency improvements while reducing environmental impact. The self-charging capability ensures that the battery is automatically charged through regenerative braking and engine power, eliminating the need for external charging and offering complete peace of mind, free from range anxiety, making hybrid vehicles a practical solution for everyday use.
Further reinforcing customer confidence, Toyota offers 8-year hybrid battery warranty, highlighting the reliability, durability, and long-term dependability of its hybrid electric vehicle technology.
Guided by its vision of ‘Mass Happiness to All,’ Toyota remains committed to developing ever-better, greener mobility solutions by promoting a range of electrified vehicle technologies, including Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs), along with alternative fuels such as Flex-Fuel Vehicles (FFVs), to support the transition towards lower carbon mobility.
