2001Since 2001, TKM has engaged with reconstruction of government schools with modern facilities in Karnataka (12 schools completed. 2 Schools in progress). Alongside, TKM also provides furniture in these schools while fulfilling other essential requirements to foster better learning environment.

2020Anganwadi centres are operating under Women and Child Development Dept., Government of Karnataka. These centres enrol 3–6-year-old children for basic education.
Research found that, the first six years of a child’s life are fundamentally important. They are the foundation that shapes children’s future health, happiness, growth, development, and learning achievement at school, in the family and community, and life in general.
Understanding the current Anganwadi teaching methodology TKM initiated the Toyota Anganwadi Development Program [TADP] in 2020 to upgrade the infrastructure and teaching methodology and in 2020- 2021 TKM identified 30 centres and conducted the base line survey to specify the need.
The assessment conducted on 4 areas – child friendly Anganwadi centres; activity based learning; Teacher Capacity Building; Health and Hygiene.

Capacity development of the teachers was the key factor highlighted during the baseline study. We found that there was no standard manual for imparting teaching inline with National Education Policy (NEP). Manual developed in this regard.
English crash course – 5-day training was provided to bridge the gap.
Teacher's training – 5 days training was provided focusing on the overall improvement in the training methodology.
Exposure visits – TKM believes in Seeing and believing and hence, exposure visit to other model Anganwadis were conducted to provide hands-on learning experience.
Low-cost material development – Teachers were trained and involved to develop low-cost materials to provide experiential learning atmosphere to the school children inline private institutions.

Post the handing over to district administration, Anganwadi teachers were capacitated to scale up the project. Refresher training were conducted for teachers on pre- school curriculum and English language. In FY 22-23, the project has been successfully handed over to District Administration
Considering the success of the TADP programme & the request from the local administration , TADP was further scaled-up to 150 centres in Ramanagara district. 2017-2021Providing conducive environment for nurturing young minds through holistic development will shape the society of tomorrow. TKM envisions creating such a self-sustaining society within our engaged communities – a sustainable village, the foundations of which are being laid through our efforts at establishing a Model School.
In our model school, special emphasis is laid on focusing towards nurturing the students’ career aspirations and penchant for learning through continuous initiatives at: improving school infrastructure and amenities, providing learning support including e-learning material, undertaking capacity building of teachers, creating an eco-friendly environment, ensuring health & safety care for all, promoting extra-curricular activities, and other similar interventions.
As a part of this initiative, in 2016-17, Government Lower Primary School at Devalinganapalya, Ramanagara district in Karnataka, was identified to implement the concept of Model school. The project kick started with the reconstruction of the government school building. Later, by creating a favorable ecosystem in collaboration with the local community, we could successfully establish a holistic model of quality education. The academic performance of the students also registered a steep increase over the years, the current average being 86%.
2003Equitable access to resources and support is fundamental to achieve success in education system with this view. TKM has undertaken the intervention of promoting the equity in availability of educational materials to students from Government schools of Ramanagara District. This support includes provision of books, bags, geometry boxes etc., are supplied to school students

2016-2017The main objective of this project was to assess the digital readiness of Dyavalinganapalya village in Ramanagara district, Karnataka. The scope of the project was to study the population within a radius of 2 kms around the village, which included Hejjala, Hejjala Colony, SVT Colony and Juttanapalya. The outcome envisaged by TKM from this project was an updated database (census) of all households in the Dyavalingayanapalya village with not only socio-economic data but also various the aspects on digital usage at the household level. The results would feed into the Road Map towards ‘digital inclusion’ through a targeted digital literacy programme to be implemented by TKM in the said village. This report includes a detailed study on the current usage of ICTs and readiness of the village towards being digitally literate through a training and capacity building programme. Furthermore, this report also includes the problems and challenges and draws out a Road Map to making this community digitally literate.

Agriculture is the main livelihood in rural Karnataka, but erratic rainfall has made farming unsustainable, leading to lower yields and economic hardship. To address this, TKM initiated the ‘Jeevana Dhara’ a Watershed Program, using a ridge-to-valley approach to enhance water harvesting, storage, irrigation, and groundwater recharge. Blending traditional and modern techniques, the program delivers resilient water conservation while supporting community development and livelihoods.
Project Jeevana Dhare reached to 11,026 people across 9 villages in Aurad Taluk, Bidar district.
According to the India State of Forest Report (ISFR, 2023), only 25.17% of India’s geographical area is under forest cover, falling short of the global average of 31%. This initiative addresses the urgent need to restore ecological balance by increasing green cover through afforestation. To promote ecological sustainability, a barren land near the Channapattana Police Training Center has been identified for afforestation and green cover expansion. This initiative focuses on ecosystem restoration, biodiversity enhancement, soil erosion prevention, and climate resilience. As part of this effort, 1,492 saplings were planted using the Forest Tree Planting Method, prioritizing native species to ensure ecological compatibility and long-term sustainability, in FY 2024-25. An estimated 55.70 tons of carbon will be sequestered through the afforestation efforts, contributing to climate change mitigation and improving overall environmental health.

2019-2021To promote the cause of safeguarding and nurturing our environment further, TKM has been making strides towards promoting waste management. We lent our support to drive forward the initiative of Bidadi Industrial Association (BIA) on the installation of a solid waste management unit. The unit is meant to cater to small scale industries and the villages in the vicinity.
It is a collaborative approach where TKM is a major contributor among Bidadi Industries. We are supporting with infrastructure related requirements for the segregation of waste for smaller industrial units in BIA and the communities around which lack proper access to waste management. The Solid Waste Management Plant will hence prove to be a better alternative towards managing BIA’s waste and lay the foundations of a sustainable future. (To be rewritten)

acres. Idea behind developing EcoZone was to create a
biodiversity zone
where children can observe and learn about the environment
beyond
classroom, while communities will evidence the environment
conservation
in person. With EcoZone we are promoting “Harmonious
co-existence” of
humans and nature through various educational activities.
EcoZone has 11
theme parks which cover aspects such as evolution, waste
management,
underground ecology, water conservation, noise pollution, energy
conservation, climate change & future landscape, and many more.
The
ecozone hosts 6 types of forests and more than 650 floral and
230 species of fauna. A
solar plant of 0.5 MW and a rainwater harvesting pond of 26,000
m3
capacity is built to cater to the utilities for the Ecozone.
While these
parks educate the children and community on the global and local
facts
related to pollution and degradation of environment, it also
exposes
them to solutions through technologies, concepts and designs
through
real-time experiences. With these activities, Toyota Kirloskar
Motor
aims to develop a future green and sustainable society which
will be in
harmony with nature.

2016-2021We, in close collaboration with the local community, have adopted a lake (Abbanakuppe) spread across 3.4 acres, in the vicinity of our manufacturing plant.
The water table has risen with an improvement in the water quality in the region, which has further boosted the agriculture in the vicinity and shown a positive impact on the flora and fauna.
In FY 2020-21, Operation and Maintenance were carried out for necessary handing over to the local municipal body. Population from 6 villages are currently benefiting from the Abbanakuppe lake.
In FY 23-24, Impact assessment was conducted. Findings are as below-
Improvement in water quality : More than 90% respondents felt that across various parameters such as foul smell, solid waste contaminants, weed and colour of lake water has seen significant improvement.
Improvement in flora & fauna : 87% of the respondents stated that improvement has been seen in the number of birds spotted around the lake.
Reduction in pollution at lake and adjoining areas : 72% of respondents stated that garbage dumping in lake premises has reduced
Access to clean public space : 69% of the respondents felt that value added features such as grass lawns and play area has significantly improved aesthetics of the lake
71% of community members felt that the lake rejuvenation programme was able to address all community needs in a sufficient manner.
94% were satisfied with the execution plan followed for the lake rejuvenation project.
94% respondents suggested that TKM should undertake similar lake rejuvenation projects with some modifications.
2015-2018With Green Me initiative, TKM started its Journey towards education for Sustainable Development with its unique practice-based learning curriculum at Government schools. Since its initiation in 2015, we partnered with educational department, 30 government higher primary and 5 high schools across Bidadi region in Ramanagara district.
The program aims at promoting environment awareness and conservation activities through both knowledge enhancement and practical implementation. Consequently, the programme has gained momentum and is successful in spreading environment awareness in the local community through ‘children as change makers’ approach.
As a result of Green Me initiative students have come together and developed their own kitchen garden. They have designed a mechanism to channelize waste water to kitchen garden. They have also started planting saplings across their villages. They have established a system to ensure cleanliness in the school premises. Overall a greater awareness and application of environment education was observed.
Government Schools. Since its initiation in 2015, we partnered with education department, 30 government higher primary and 5 high schools across Bidadi region in Ramanagara district.
We introduced Star Rating System to evaluate schools on environment awareness scale. The evaluation criteria is based on student awareness levels and various activities such as plantation and clean up drives, water and waste management, community campaigns etc.
We continuously engage students in various ways to bring about a behavioural change. We conduct pre and post training assessment to understand the increase in awareness scale.
We engage with the nearby villages to create awareness amongst the local community on environmental concerns. We introduce the concept of Green Me in Gram Panchayat meeting. Further, the school children along with the NGO partners actively engage with the villagers for good environment practices.

2015TKM has been actively propagating a solution model which leverages behavioral change into triggering a shift in the mindset of the engaged communities. The ABCD programme focuses on inducing behavioral change, in school going children. The aim of this programme is to foster the importance of sanitation and hygiene in young minds. Children in turn act as catalysts to provoke thoughts, initiate discussions and promote awareness within the families, and thereby the community. Adding to its success and credibility, ABCD project got acknowledged as a case study by Harvard Business School. It has also been covered by IVEY publication.
Prior to the project, only used to take daily bath which has increased considerably to 22.9% post programme.
Post the intervention, 84% of the respondents are using an incinerator to dispose the sanitary pads, compared to 57% earlier.
About 16% households had built the toilets at their home after being exposed to ABCD programme.

2019TKM’s social interventions in the field of health comprise of strengthening existing village level primary healthcare systems, by supporting with the required supplies and healthcare infrastructure
A need assessment study undertaken in the communities provided insights for the need of improved healthcare infrastructure. To address this need, TKM started a pilot project in FY 2019,of the constructing a Primary Health Center [PHC] at Byramangala, Ramnagara district, as per the the guidelines of the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS). Additionally necessary equipment were procured and installed at the PHC ensuring smooth access to health care services by the communities. In recent times ,this PHC, underwent a rigorous quality evaluation and certification process under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) Program, scoring an impressive 90.08% during the assessment held on 8-9 November 2023. Initiated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi the NQAS Program targets at improvement of care quality in India's public health facilities, providing guidelines for district hospitals, community health centers, primary health centers, and urban primary health centers. This certification affirms the government’s focus in delivering excellent healthcare services to the local communities.
Further to this in FY 2020, TKM initiated construction of constructed Community Health Center (CHC) at Bidadi, Ramanagara (district), under a public-private collaboration with the Government of Karnataka. It has set up specialized units for medical procedures. It has provided furniture, fixtures, and electrical systems. A Medical Oxygen Generation plant has also been set up which can generate approximately 70 cylinders per day. In FY 2022-23, the fully built facility has been successfully handed over to District Administration.
Considering the basic medical needs in the health centres. Tkm strengthened 6 centre in Ramanagara district & Child and maternity health care centre in Raichur district, with life saving, diagnostic and general medical equipment. Thereby, providing access to basic heath care facilities to 5,68,000 community members
2019TSAP was launched in 2019, towards ensuring a healthy and illness-free childhood. Under this programme school students undergo medical checkups further to which they are provided corrective eye care, healthcare supplements, or referral to tertiary healthcare centres depending upon the diagnosis provided by the doctor. In addition, the students were provided necessary health & hygiene awareness session to maintain better health

To address the issue, last year TKM introduced a mobile medical unit which travels to various communities for regular health checkup and treatment, leading to a more preventive approach to primary healthcare.

2014 – 2018The importance of water and sanitary facilities for schools is widely acknowledged. Yet in practice, the situation in many schools, especially in rural India, is far from satisfactory. Of about 1 million primary schools in India, roughly 70 percent have safe drinking water and only 50 percent have sanitary facilities. School sanitation is not just construction of toilets, but a package of school-centric interventions to bring about attitudinal and behavioral changes towards critical sanitation and hygiene practices among children and to empower them to lead a healthy life. Children are also very effective change agents. They help to create a healthy, clean and active learning environment in school and then carry the messages back home to motivate their families to improve sanitation and hygiene habits. TKM conducted the situational Analysis of local schools and understood the importance of gender segregated toilets in government school. With the vision of contributing to the national goals, TKM started construction of school toilets in Karnataka, UP and Bihar states in 2014-15 and Public toilets in 2016-17.

The only institute in South India to cater the requirements of Traffic trainings to the related stakeholders. 2018Aims to foster and encourage development of practical, implementable digital solutions to promote road safety – encourage students to become ‘Solution Providers’. TKM piloted Toyota Hackathon in 2018 for students across 9th – 12th grades (schools/colleges) at IIT-Delhi. Encourages children to become critical thinkers, further develop solutions for modern-day road safety challenges. This helps to unlock the hidden talents of young minds, empowering them to make significant contributions to the vital cause of road safety. Further, by actively engaging students, it seeks to develop them to become ‘Change Agents’, playing a crucial role in bringing about a positive behavioral change in the community at large. Furthermore, this initiative provides an ideal platform, encouraging the future generation to leverage their knowledge and technical expertise to address high-priority issues effectively.
Toyota Hackathon reached to 300 Students
The Toyota Hackathon was launched in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore, reaching 576 schools and over 13,300 children. A total of 153 concept notes were submitted, covering a range of road safety issues.
During the final hackathon, 66 students were shortlisted. The students knowledge enhancement were conducted during boot camp
2017To drive our school engagement programme on road safety a bit further, TKM has conceptualized an additional intervention in experiential learning for students as well as school bus drivers. The initiative involves incorporating an experiential learning model through the creation of a Traffic Park in our Model Schools. The traffic park is instrumental in exposing them to different real-life scenarios within the safe limits of their school premises. It further promotes the adoption of safe practices, such that these scenarios can be dealt with safely and promptness, whenever a need arises. The Model schools with Traffic parks act as a knowledge hub for other schools in the neighbourhood as well.
A total of 7 Safety model schools, one each at Delhi, Hisar, Varanasi, Rewari, Kochi, Kolkata & Coimbatore, have been established as a part of this programme, since its inception in 2016, with a reach of around 5050 students. In 2019-20, the TTA centre in Coimbatore got inaugurated and 800 students were reached through the centre.
2014As an important component of social contribution activities, Toyota works to address the lack of safe driving habits among adults, specifically airport drivers in Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Delhi. The mission is to impart better road safety practices to airport drivers, while pairing up the training sessions with health camps to ensure other needs of drivers are met amidst their busy work schedules. Along with a 3-day road safety refresher course, Toyota conducts general health and optometry camps for the airport drivers.

Driver safety awareness Program was conducted in Aizawl(District), Mizoram. The data shows that 68.32% of the 423 traffic accidents in Mizoram in 2024 occurred due to carelessness and driver distraction. The training sessions was focusing on Safe Driving Practices followed by health check-up camp, benefiting 800 Drivers
Mizoram experienced a sharp rise in road accidents and fatalities in 2023 - 2024, increasing from 106 accidents and 96 deaths in 2023 to 124 accidents and 112 deaths in 2024. In response, a road safety initiative was launched to tackle frequent traffic violations and improve traffic management in Aizawl city. TKM, in collaboration with the Traffic Police Department and the Smart City Office, is deploying 54 surveillance units— including ANPR cameras and CCTVs—across 20 key locations. These systems will be integrated into the city’s traffic monitoring network, with active oversight by the Traffic Police and maintenance by the Smart City Office.
A total of 4,00,000 community members benefited from 54 units installed across 20 locations.

India’s automotive sector is undergoing a major transformation toward sustainable and electrified mobility. To support this shift, established the Mobility Engineering Laboratory in Indian Institute of Science Bangalore – a first-of-its-kind facility focused on hybrid technologies.
Launched in FY 2024 -25, the lab integrates multidisciplinary training with Hardware-in-Loop(HIL) simulation for advanced powertrain testing.

2017In 2017, TKM conceptualised an employee volunteering programme called iCARE (I, Community Action to Reach Everyone). iCARE provided a platform for employees to get an added purpose by engaging with community on diverse social issues by devoting their time and expertise for the betterment of the society.
